Solaria Labs, Liberty Mutual’s technology incubator, leads disruptive idea generation, research, and testing with the goal of launching breakthrough products and services inspired by global trends and emerging technologies. Based in Boston, Solaria Labs will also soon be launching a new location in Singapore. Through this new Solaria Labs location, Liberty Mutual will work collaboratively within the robust Singapore innovation ecosystem to explore new ways of combining auto, home, environmental and infrastructure data to assess risk – ultimately helping people live safer lives.  Other focus areas for Solaria Labs Singapore include the research and development of technologies that are disrupting traditional insurance business models.

Solaria Labs Singapore is looking for a Lab Manager who is passionate about emerging technologies, is entrepreneurial, and can provide leadership to several agile research and development teams.   The role will be responsible for evolving the lab based on industry best practices, recruiting top cross-discipline talent, providing best-in-class infrastructure, creating an environment that fosters smart risk taking, and codifying Design Thinking and Agile methodologies within the teams.  This role will work closely with partners and stakeholders within Liberty Mutual, both in the Singapore and U.S. offices. This role will also work closely with other Solaria Labs team members in Boston to ensure coordination and sharing across projects. Finally, this role would own several high profile relationships with startup, academic, or mature partners to support the success of co-development launches. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of new disruptive and transformational products and services
  • Manage 2-3 lab teams dedicated to building new products and services, helping to drive problem solving, removing obstacles, and providing appropriate resources and environment
  • Prioritize concept requests at each stage of our lab process (e.g. ideation, concept validation, agile prototyping)
  • Identify best practices from similar organizations and implement new methodology as appropriate
  • Provide guidance on Lab improvements, including expansion opportunities, required support services, or other
  • Achieve higher rate and lower cost prototyping, experimentation, and concept pilots by leveraging Design Thinking and Agile methodologies
  • Work with HR to identify top talent to join the Labs; onboard as appropriate
  • Identify and drive opportunities (e.g., advisory roles, offsite meetings, tours) to engage LM employees and partners to ensure clear understanding of value and deliverables from Lab
  • Work collaboratively with our business functions to leverage the lab to accelerate development within the core business and adjacencies
  • Lead collaboration with Solaria Labs U.S. to share technology and co-develop products


  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 7-10 years of proven progressive experience and a minimum of five years of proven team management and leadership experience.
  • MBA or advanced technical degree required, experience with other Innovation Lab environment critical.
  • Strong ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization. Must possess strong analytical, strategic, project management, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Passion for research and technology; preference for candidates who demonstrate awareness of the latest tools and trends in software development and data science
  • Ability to successfully manage in a test and learn, rapid iteration environment
  • Ability to manage unstructured information and communicate/translate it to others in a more structure way
  • Ability to think past current constraints and influence others to gain buy-in and alignment
