Due to the growth of our business in Singapore an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Underwriter (commercial Lines)  to join our team in the Singapore office.

As an Underwriter, you will expected to actively achieve profitable growth in business from producers assigned to you. You will also get the opportunity to apply your analytical and negotiation skills in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Job Description:

1. Underwriting

  • Analyses commercial lines accounts assigned to make decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls. 
  • Evaluates and price new and renewal business within delegated authority levels, Company guidelines and local regulations, to achieve profitable growth. 
  • Uses creativity and underwriting knowledge to write risks and retain business.

2. Client servicing

  • Develops ongoing relationships with assigned producers to discuss and communicate on:
    -  Market trends and appetite, to promote and evaluate the relevance of the Company’s products and services.
    - Quality and profitability of producer submissions, service standards, and underwriting and/or product changes. 
    - Underwriting issues including but not limited to decisions on cancellations, declinations, exposure concerns, and survey results.
  • Assists Underwriting Manager to identify issues of concern and works to resolve or improve them. May identify sales and marketing opportunities in the process.
  • Helps Business Development colleagues train and educate producers’ staff in the Company’s more complex products, services and underwriting philosophy.
  • Networks within the insurance community to stay abreast of changes within the industry and ensure the Company’s products and pricing remain competitive and relevant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum Bachelor Degree/ Professional Insurance qualification
  • 3 years or more of relevant working experience in Commercial Lines insurance
  • Actively pursuing professional insurance designations such as ACII/AAII or equivalent designation preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial lines product and contract language which includes regulatory and policy difference
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to work with multi-faceted systems
  • Ability to effectively and independently manage workload while exhibiting good judgement
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships, and must also exemplify teamwork
